Officially known as the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral and Parish of St. John the Evangelist, it is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Caceres. Also called “The Mother of Churches in the Bicolandia”, the Cathedral has withstood several earthquakes and other natural disasters. The first church was established after the creation of the archdiocese as the Diocese of Nueva Cáceres in 1595. The present cathedral was built in 1808, and was completed and consecrated in 1843.[1]
The Naga City Metropolitan Cathedral is a heritage structure, and the Philippine Historical Committee installed a Level II historical marker in 1939.
