Finding of the Holy Cross Church (Manguiring, Calabanga, Camarines Sur)

The Parish of the Holy Cross is located in the coastal barangay of Manguiring, Calabanga.

The Finding of the Holy Cross Parish, a Roman Catholic church under the Archdiocese of Caceres, was founded on February 4, 1733. Situated in Barangay Manguiring, Calabanga municipality, Camarines Sur province, the parish celebrates its annual fiesta on the 3rd of May.

Significance

The Finding of the Holy Cross Parish is home to an old religious tradition called “Padalit,” in which the miraculous holy cross is brought down from the altar for visits to homes and families in the area. The Holy Cross is warmly welcomed in each home where prayers and hymns are offered in praise of the Lord.  As time passed, devotion to the Holy Cross grew and spread widely. Rev. Fr. Godofredo Rueda Jr. decided to have a replica made and used in the “padalit” to preserve and protect the antique original. The custom continues to this day and was interrupted only during the COVID-19 pandemic.
