Religious and Historical Sites

Important historic churches and sites in Naga City. These places tell of the origins and growth of the devotion to the Our Lady of Peñafrancia, and the history of the royal city of  Nueva Caceres, which was later to bloom as the modern City of Naga.

The Porta Mariae 

Celebrating the 300th year of the Bicolano devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia, this commemorative arch was formally opened on September 9, 2010. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in Naga City.

Holy Rosary Minor Seminary

Established in 1785, the Holy Rosary Seminary stands as the oldest ecclesiastical and civil higher educational institution in Southern Luzon.

Ateneo de Naga University

This only Jesuit-run educational institution in Southern Luzon was used by the Japanese as a prison camp during World War II.

University of Nueva Caceres

Recognized as the first and oldest university in South Luzon, UNC has also grown to become a leader in the field of higher education and among the largest institutions of higher learning in the region.

Naga College Foundation

Established in 1947 by Dr. Melchor T. Villanueva, Naga College Foundation was created to address the post-war educational crisis in Naga, providing affordable, high-quality education and leaving a lasting legacy of Dr. Villanueva’s dedication to education and service.

The Old Abella Mansion Arch

The red brick Arch is all that remains of the historic mansion of Don Mariano Abella, a member of the Propaganda Movement and Provincial Governor during the early years of the American Regime.

Museums and Religious Monuments

Danlugan ni Ina

The monument marks the spot beside the Naga River where, following a foot procession, the image of Ina is handed over to the pagoda to continue the voyage via a fluvial procession.
