Naga City’s Kinalas Festival, dubbed Fiesta Royale de Kinalas, kicked off amidst excitement as locals and tourists gathered to celebrate one of the city’s most beloved culinary traditions.
This year’s festivities coincided with the unveiling of Naga City’s new tourism brand, “Naga ‘Yon,” adding further buzz and enthusiasm to the event. Throughout the week-long celebration, over 500 participants savored various Kinalas dishes, showcasing the dish’s versatility and enduring popularity.
The festival’s highlight was the eagerly anticipated Kinalas contest, where Wawek’s Lechon Kinalas claimed 1st place with its special roasted pork twist on the traditional dish. Judges and attendees alike were impressed by its flavorful meat and rich broth. Kitchen Everywhere secured 2nd place, followed by Mang Kok in 3rd place.
The competition also featured other notable Kinalasan entries, demonstrating their commitment to Naga City’s culinary heritage, ranked as follows:
– Didick’s – 4th place
– Ming Teng’s – 5th place
– Panata-Uma – 6th place
– JNJ Kinalas – 7th place
– CJ’s Foodhaws – 8th place
This year’s festival was particularly memorable as various eateries showcased their creativity with dishes like “Pizza Kinalas” and “Shawarma Kinalas,” blending traditional elements with contemporary twists. These innovations highlighted Kinalas’ versatility and culinary potential.
The festival’s success was bolstered by the support and organization of Naga’s local government unit (LGU), ensuring smooth operations and a celebration that honored and preserved the city’s rich culinary heritage.
